ROYAL MAIL BREAK STAMP PRICE CAP AS PART OF 2019 POSTAGE PRICE INCREASE
Uncategorised • 23rd Apr, 19 • 0 Comments
Recently, Royal Mail has been found guilty of increasing the price of second-class stamps outside of the permitted level set by Ofcom. As a result of this breach, the privatised company is now to donate £60,000 of its revenue to a charity of its choice.
The “royal blunder” broken down
Earlier this year, Royal Mail raised the price of its first-class stamps from 67p to 70p and charged customers 3p more for a second-class stamp, taking the price from 58p to 61p. According to the company, these sudden price changes were made to “ensure the sustainability of the universal postal service”. Much to their dismay, hours after making the price change announcement, the postal service company admitted it had breached a cap imposed by Ofcom which prevents pricing second class stamps higher than 60p.
To make up for this error, the privatised company are now donating the expected revenue from the price increase to charity, with an amount of £60,000 going to Action For Children who support disadvantaged children across the UK. We are pleased to say that all is now well in Royal Mail-ville and hope this error doesn’t repeat itself!
