It’s the season of change for Royal Mail deliveries including international and parcel services
News • 12th Oct, 18 • 0 Comments
Recent changes have been made to Royal Mail’s services and procedures, with further changes scheduled for 2019 to improve services and make them more convenient for you and your business. At FP Mailing L&C we like to keep you up to date on the latest postage news and updates, so we’ve put together what changes to Royal Mail delivery services are happening now, along with what to expect from January 2019.
Update to existing Poll Card Mailing Option
Mail produced anywhere within the UK can now be collected and taken to the relevant drop off point thanks to changes from 1st October to the existing Poll Card Mailing Option – how convenient is that?
Parcel services
Changes commenced on 8th October to non-barcoded parcels sent using the new SU1 and SU2 product codes, so they now cost 2p more across all weight bands for the parcel format. However, there are no price changes to the barcoded Royal Mail 24 and Royal Mail 48 services. It is still cheaper to send barcoded – try franking with Mailmark!
International deliveries
Commencing 1st January 2019, it will be required that more electronic data is included when sending parcels abroad from the UK as well as an S10 1D barcode. Pre-advice information about the sender, the recipient and the items that are being posted will need to be presented to ensure that legislative, security and customs requirements in the countries receiving the mail are met.
It will be a formal requirement to include electronic pre-advice as countries such as the United States are considering reserving the right to apply penalties, delay or refuse items without this extra data, but it’s not all doom and gloom! This data offers the opportunity to access new features such as enhanced tracking, delivery choice and smoother, more efficient customs processes – it’s even more unlikely that your parcels could get lost!
To find out more on how to be compliant with these new requirements and to produce the S10 1D barcode, Royal Mail have updated shipping systems, shipping APIs, specifications for your own shipping solutions (C0SS) and external shipping platforms.
